The control device enables a stable idling state to be reached when the number of injections per cycle reaches an alteration point at which it changes from five to four in an ongoing learning process. The injection pulse duration suffices for a belt three injections four of one-time injection duration which is the same as that of the previous learning function. An injection pulse time for the fourth injection is set to a corresponding value. These values are stored in a storage device (10).
