The apparatus has a pair of line memories (42a, 42b) for horizontally reading image data and alternately storing data arrays. A pair of memories (44a, 44b) alternately reads the image data from the line memories on a preset time basis, and stores the data array corresponding to a frame. Output units vertically addresses the data arrays stored in the memories on the preset time basis and outputs the addressed data arrays. An independent claim is also included for a method of transposing data.
