The device has a conduit (1) supplying hydraulic fluid at variable pressure. A low fluid supply corresponds to a single supply flow of compensation chambers so that a valve (6) remains closed. A high fluid supply creates a pressure increase in the supply conduit so that progressive opening of the valve is achieved and lubrication supply is also simultaneously ensured at the compensation chambers. An independent claim is also included for a method to supply hydraulic fluid to humid friction clutches disposed at an inlet of a gearbox of a motor vehicle.
