PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous emulsion excellent in emulsion polymerization stability in its production, also excellent in mechanical stability, freeze stability, long-term stability after left to stand at high temperatures, water-resistant adhesivity and redispersibility, and to provide a redispersible resin and an adhesive each using the aqueous emulsion. SOLUTION: The aqueous emulsion contains (A) a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin bearing a 1,2-diol component on the side chain and having an average polymerization degree of 50-2,500 and (B) a polymer made from at least one unsaturated monomer selected from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer and a diene monomer.
