PURPOSE: A method for operating roaming data communication of a GSM(Global System for Mobile Communication) system is provided to record a pending signal if a reject display signal is received by a data communication service request from a roaming area of a mobile communication system, thereby immediately receiving a data communication service in a home area. CONSTITUTION: If a GSM portable terminal applies for a data communication service in order to perform digital data communication(S110), MSCs decide whether the portable terminal is in a home area of a home system or in a roaming area of a roaming system(S120). If the terminal is in the home area, the MSCs decide whether the data communication service is in a determined state or in a pending state(S150). If in the determined state, the first MSC receives the data communication service to use digital data communication, and if in the pending state, the MSC retrieves a database to decide whether the portable terminal is registered(S170). If so, the MSC supplies the data communication service(S160). If the terminal is not registered, the MSC rejects the data communication service(S180).
