PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress excessive increase of actual valve overlap quantity in relation to target valve overlap quantity during transition operation. SOLUTION: When target valve timing of another valve changes to a valve overlap quantity reducing side through master control and slave control in one valve under master control and another valve under slave control, actual valve overlap quantity OVR is changed toward target valve overlap quantity OVP by slave control. During such transition operation, actual valve timing of another valve by slave control is changed in good response in relation to change of target valve timing. That is done since slave control is adopted to one of quicker response speed of two variable valve mechanisms during the transition operation. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
