PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specify an absolute position in a medium by continuously generating prepit synchronous signals at constant intervals irrespective of the presence/absence of prepit detection when an optical disk recording/playing back device executes further recording from the recorded area of an optical disk. SOLUTION: When recording is further started from a suspended position having data recorded in an optical disk, a prepit detection means synchronizes a data synchronous signal detected by a data synchronization detection means with the timing of generating a prepit synchronous signal to generate a sure prepit synchronous signal, and a recording control means counts writing clocks by a predetermined number of times based on the sure prepit synchronous signal to start recording.
