PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a select assisting device of an automatic transmission capable of providing a select lever operation force characteristic corresponding to a request, by expanding a degree of freedom of a layout by miniaturization of a select lever, while allowing range switching operation in fail by the mechanical connection of the select lever and a select position switching device. SOLUTION: A position sensor 6 is arranged for detecting a relative displacement quantity of a first rotary part 13 and a second rotary part 17. A controller 3 has a proportional arithmetic operation part 32 for performing a proportional arithmetic operation by the relative displacement quantity, an integral arithmetic operation part 31 for performing an integral arithmetic operation by the relative displacement quantity, a differential arithmetic operation part 33 for performing a differential arithmetic operation by an operation position, and adders 34 and 35 for arithmetically operating a command value from the proportional arithmetic operation value, the integral arithmetic operation value and the differential arithmetic operation value.
