摘要 1286999 Tobacco-smoke filters PHILIP MORRIS Inc 23 Oct 1969 [13 Dec 1968] 52070/69 Heading A2C [Also in Division C3] A tobacco-smoke filter comprises a solid, cross-linked, microporous organic polymer having a particle size from 5 to 850 microns and a surface area of at least 50 square meters per gram containing from 10 to 100 parts by weight, per 100 parts by weight of the polymer, of a flavouring agent for tobacco smoke, the polymer being capable of removing undesirable components from the tobacco smoke. The polymers are formed from diethylenically unsaturated monomers by homopolymerization, by copolymerization of mixtures of them, or by copolymerization with monoethylenically unsaturated monomers, the microporous structure being obtained by polymerization under special conditions or by after-treatment (see Division C3). The preparation of a number of such polymers is exemplified, but the examples disclosing the making of filters containing a flavouring agent are restricted to the use of ethylvinylbenzene-divinylbenzene crosslinked polymers, commercially available as "Porapak Q" (Trade Mark) polymers, which are sphere-like particles of 80 x 100 mesh size having an average pore size of 10 Angstrom units and a total surface area of 100 square meters per gram. Flavours exemplified are anethole, menthol and lime oil, but long lists of other suitable flavouring materials comprising organic acids, aldehydes, ketones, ethers, esters and alcohols are given. Preferably the filters are made by sprinkling the polymer granules, after impregnating with a flavouring material, onto an opened cellulose acetate filter tow, and then forming the composite material into a filter rod and cutting it into filter element lengths.
