A stuffer crimper apparatus comprises a pair of feed rollers 3, 3' and keep plates 7, 7' held against the planar faces of the feed rollers and rotatable about axes a offset from the line of the nip b between the feed rollers, but not passing through the plane including the rotational axes of the rollers or the plane perpendicular thereto and including the nip between the rollers. The rollers 3, 3' are mounted for rotation on shafts 12, 12', and the keep plates 7, 7' are freely rotatable in holders 9, 9' frictional contact with the planar surfaces of the rollers rotating the plates. The axes a of the keep plates 7, 7' are in alignment. In operation, the yarn 1 is fed into the crimping chamber 4 by the rollers 3, 3', the keep plates 7, 7' maintaining the yarn within the nip b. The yarn is pressed in the chamber 4 by a weighted flap 6. The location of the keep plates gives optimum life for the plates by spreading the wearing of the plate surface over a larger area. |
