PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic field generator for restricting and controlling a leak magnetic field, and to provide a leak magnetic field distribution control method for controlling the distribution of the leak magnetic field having a fixed range of strength. SOLUTION: The magnetic field generator 10 comprises a low temperature container 1; one main coil 2 for generating a main magnetic field; a pair of first reversed magnetic field coils 4; six second reversed magnetic field coils 5; and a pair of third reversed magnetic field coils 6. The third reversed magnetic field coils 6 are coaxial with the main coil 2, symmetrically arranged with the main coil 2 as a center, and arranged on the circumferential extension of the first reversed magnetic field coils 4 and also on the axial extension of the second reversed magnetic field coils 5. An electric current in the opposite direction of the main coil 2 is made to flow in the third reversed magnetic field coils 6, so as to restrict the leak magnetic field from the main coil 2 together with the first and second reversed magnetic field coils.
