PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the lifetimes of the electric charges on an electron emission element and a display device by properly removing the electric charges accumulated in the electron emission element. SOLUTION: The display device is equipped with a non-display period extending circuit (8) which outputs an input video signal while making a non-display period of the input video signal longer than a non-display period of input video, a plurality of electron discharging elements (1a) which discharge electrons according to the video signal outputted from the non-display period extending circuit, and a scan driver (5) having a pulse applying circuit which applies a pulse signal to the electron discharging elements in the non-display period of the video signal extended by the non-display period extending circuit.
