Compounds of the formula in which each of the groups R and R1 represents an alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyl or alkenyloxy group or an aryl or aryloxy group optionally substituted by one or more electronegative groups; V, W, X and Y represent a hydrogen or chlorine atom, and Z represents a hydrogen or chlorine atom or a chlorine-substituted arlkyl group; and either A represents a hydrogen atom and B represents a chlorine atom or A and B together represent an additional bond between the two carbon atoms to which they are attached, with the proviso that, when A represents a hydrogen atom and B represents a chlorine atom, V, W, X, Y and Z each represent a chlorine atom and R and R1 each represent an alkoxy group. They are prepared by reacting a ketone of the formula at between O and 80‹ C. with a trivalent phosphorus compound of the formula: (R)(R1)P0R11 where R11 represents an alkyl group. The reaction is preferably carried out in an inert solvent. The compounds may be used as insecticides.
