METHOD FOR DRIVING CHARGE-TRANSFER TYPE SOLID-STATE IMAGE PICK-UP DEVICE AND IMAGE PICK-UP METHOD AND APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce reading time of a picture signal while having constitution of removing smear components in the case of obtaining the image of a wide dynamic range using solid-state image pick-up device having high sensitivity photoelectric conversion elements and low sensitivity photoelectric conversion elements. SOLUTION: A method includes driving the charge-transfer type solid-state image pick-up device, wherein the charge-transfer type solid-state image pick-up device comprises: the high sensitivity photoelectric conversion elements for executing photoelectric conversion with relatively high sensitivity; the low sensitivity photoelectric conversion elements for executing photoelectric conversion with relatively low sensitivity; and vertical transfer channels for transferring signal charges from the high sensitivity photoelectric conversion elements and the low sensitivity photoelectric conversion elements. The method comprises a charge transfer step of individually reading/transferring signal charges from the high sensitivity photoelectric conversion elements and low sensitivity photoelectric conversion elements onto the vertical transfer channels, without executing a high speed charge transfer operation for the vertical transfer channels after exposure of the solid-state image pick-up device.
