PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water quality measuring instrument which enables continuous detailed measurement with respect to BOD especially effective among quality items of water important from an aspect of the capacity evaluation of treated water in a septic tank but difficult in continuous measurement by a conventional technique and realizes cost reduction and miniaturization by a simple constitution. SOLUTION: The water quality measuring instrument comprises an optical water quality measuring part 2 capable of optically measuring a predetermined quality item of sample water to output the measurement result; a memory part 4 capable of storing and reading the operation parameter corresponding to the kind of a measuring target; and an arithmetic part 3 for performing operation on the basis of the measurement result output from the optical water quality measuring part 2 and the operation parameter read from the memory part 4 corresponding to the measuring target and outputting the estimate value of the other quality item of water having strong correlation with respect to the predetermined quality item of water.
