PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless local area network access point that authenticates users using fingerprint recognition. SOLUTION: Users may register fingerprints with the wireless access point with the assistance of an authorized system administrator. When a registered user attempts to access the network, the user may be prompted to provide a fingerprint scan. A fingerprint reader in the user's equipment may be used to capture the user's fingerprint. The captured fingerprint may be submitted to the wireless access point for comparison with a database of fingerprints of authorized users.
