PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an infrared type carbon dioxide detector capable of performing required zero calibration easily and accurately by a simple operation for only introducing gas for zero calibration, and a zero calibration method to be performed in the infrared type carbon dioxide detector. SOLUTION: This infrared type carbon dioxide detector is characterized by performing automatically the zero calibration operation after recognizing that gas is a gas for zero calibration by detecting that the introduced gas satisfies a specific condition. In this zero calibration method, the introduced gas is subjected to a specific gas kind discrimination treatment, and when the gas satisfies the specific condition, it is recognized automatically that the gas is a gas for zero calibration, and a concentration indication value by the gas is set as the zero point.
