<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of shortening the waiting time before an image is formed, more particularly the waiting time after the start of energization before image formation is made possible. <P>SOLUTION: The formation of an image is made possible even in the state that color matching adjustment is not yet completed in so far as after the end of the adjustment of forming conditions for the image, in the image forming apparatus 1 which performs the adjustment of the forming conditions for the image to regulate density of each color image in order to prevent the degradation in the image quality of the multicolor image after the start of energization, etc., and consecutively performs the color matching adjustment of forming position of each color image so as to superpose each color image. When an instruction for the image formation is accepted during the execution of the color matching adjustment, the color matching adjustment is interrupted and the image formation is preferentially performed. When the image formation is performed in the state that the color matching adjustment is not yet completed, the color matching adjustment is performed after the end of the image formation.
