PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To respectively provide a camera system and a camera main body capable of carrying out photographing even when a signal conversion processing section of the camera main body is incapable of applying signal processing to an image signal transmitted from a camera head mounted on the camera main body. SOLUTION: A main body CPU discriminates whether or not the signal conversion processing section of the camera main body can process the image signal on the basis of signal conversion processing information and ID information downloaded from the camera head when the camera head is mounted on the camera main body. When the discrimination by the broadcast CPU results in negation, no signal processing is carried out by the signal conversion processing section and a RAW data recording mode for adding part of the signal conversion processing information at the camera head as data and RAW data are recorded on a recording medium is set in the inside of the camera main body.
