There is provided a matching technique capable of rapidly and accurately judging similarity between two objects. The matching method judges similarity between two objects by comparing a set of characteristic points of objects projected on the N-dimensional space. The method includes: a mapping step (S3) for mapping the set onto the one-dimensional space; a paring step (S6) for generating a set of pairs of characteristic points of the first object and the characteristic points of the second object arranged in the vicinity of each other; a subset generation step (S7) for generating a subset of pairs of the characteristic points by extracting part of the pairs in the ascending order of the distance between the two points from the set of the pairs of the characteristic points; an average value calculation step (S8) for calculating an evaluation scale of the pair belonging to the subset of the pairs of the characteristic points; and a judgment step (S10) for judging the similarity between the first object and the second object according to the average distance value.
