The water-content of the peat (pref. fen peat) is adjusted to 75-90 (pref. 80-85) wt.% (dry peat basis), then the peat is granulated and the granules (without substantial movement relative to each other) are dried to a water content of 4-25 wt%. The granules are pref. sieved and the fines recycled. The pH of the peat may be adjusted by e.g. adding acid, gaseous or aqs. NH3, (NH4)2CO3, quicklime, K2HPO4, CaCO3 or aqs. alkali before, during or after the granulation. At least one biocidal agent (especially Temik) may be incorporated into the granules before, during or after the granulation (pref. in an amount of 5-20% of the dry wt. of the peat). Advantage is that increasing the water content of the peat before granulation improves the properties of the granules obtained.
|
