PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set image quality according to user's preference without any need to set a recording rate every time the contents of a broadcast program or the like are recorded. SOLUTION: The device 100 for recording information has each category recording rate storage part 105 for storing the bit rate in recording for each category of predetermined contents. For example, when program contents received by a digital broadcast tuner 103 are recorded in a recording medium by a recording part 106, a bit rate stored in each category recording rate storage part 105 is extracted according to the category of program contents, and the recording of contents is executed based on the extracted bit rate.
