Transmission coupling, consists of a driving shaft carrying a rotor which is inside a casing constituting the driven member. The casing filled with a fluid which thickens by shearing to take up the drive and becomes thinner again when the drive ceases. The fluid consists of a copolymer of three different esters of methacyrlic acid, two of them being alkyl methacrylates and the third a hydroxy alkyl methacrylate, dissolved at the rate of 10-20% by weight in mineral lubricating oil. The oil has a viscosity of 4 centistokes at 210 deg.
