The gas is sucked through a ventilator into a cylindrical vessel contng. an ultra-violet lamp or other radiation source. The emitted electrons are accelerated by an electric field between the vessel wall and a concentric screen. Ionisation is achieved by collision of the electrons with the gas molecules, and a second electrode in front of the discharge orifice can remove ions, as desired. |
