In normal operation, fluid flows through several circuits in parallel in the heat exchanger; but with reduced flow (e.g. when reactor is shutdown or has less than maximum charge) the fluid flows through only some of the circuits which are located so as not to overheat. The circuits are pref. coiled helically in the heat exchanger and the fluid, pumped from the core and back, flows downwardly through the coils. The circuits are connected to one of two heat exchanger inlets, to one of which the supply of fluid can be stopped.
|
