Insulating mat made of synthetic fibre waste in which the mass of aero dynamically prepared fibres are formed into a skein which is thermally reinforced and in which a thermoplastic binder is incorporated. The waste is polyester, polyamide or a mixture of them. The binder may be polyamide fibres or polyethylene having a melting point between 110 degrees C and 120 degrees C. The binder is in an amount of 8 to 12%.
