The instrument has a support gripping surface (7) positioned such that the surface is tightly applied against an edge (2a) of a cotyloid implant cup (2), when a suction cup (6) is applied against a wall of the cup (2). A handle (8) has a threaded portion (25) on which a threaded ring (26) is engaged for moving the surface with respect to the handle and the cup (6). The ring also permits to fix the surface in a determined position. An independent claim is also included for an assembly formed by an ancillary instrument and a cup of a cotyloid implant.
