Disclosed are a nickel hydroxide powder and a method for producing the same. Specifically disclosed is a nickel hydroxide powder containing spherical particles having an average particle diameter of not less than 0.1 µm and not more than 30 µm, wherein the ratio of particles having diameters of not less than 0.7 times and not more than 1.3 times as large as the average particle diameter to the total number of particles is not less than 80% by weight. Also disclosed is a method for producing a nickel hydroxide powder comprising the following steps (1)-(4). Step (1): A solution containing a nickel salt is introduced, through fine pores, into a liquid which is not compatible with the solution, thereby obtaining an emulsion wherein the solution serves as the dispersed phase and the liquid serves as the continuous phase. Step (2): The emulsion is gelled. Step (3): A cake is obtained by separating the dispersed phase from the thus-obtained gel. Step (4): The cake is dried.
