Liquid waste treatment process is as in NL 6904432. The liquid raw material is fed to a separation zone and treated to remove the sludge from the effluent. Sufficient slaked lime is mixed with the sludge in a first mixing zone to bring the pH to a pre-determined high level and form a phosphatic deposit. The treated sludge is then mixed with raw material in a second mixing zone at a rate enabling a pre-determined lower pH to be obtained. The mixture is fed from the second mixing zone to a zone where a sludge containing phosphorus is separated. Part of this latter sludge is discharged as waste, and part of it returned to the first mixing zone.
