A method for preparing a heat transfer medium for condensing heating of workpieces for brazing and soldering uses selected mixtures of fluids to provide a heating profile through condensing onto the workpieces. The recycled fluids are separated by a distillation column. Non toxic, non corrosive fluids are used which are also thermally and chemically inert. The system ensures a minimum temperature gradient over the workpieces and is designed to work with solders with a narrow thermal window.
