A method, system and computer program product for the gathering and processing of data from a plurality of vehicles. Each vehicle broadcasts data indicative of itself and its position and detects other broadcasts from other vehicles. Each encounter is recorded in a record for uploading to a road use charging authority. On receipt of the record, the charging authority 200 calculates the road use charge for the vehicle from which the encounter record was uploaded and accumulates journey information for the vehicles which the uploading vehicle claims to have encountered and detects anomalies within the uploaded records.
