[Also in Division C4] A coated abrasive disc comprises a continuous, substantially planar, abrasive coated base member (22) having a circular central portion 12 and a plurality of segments 14 integral with said central portion 12, uniformly spaced therearound, and extending outwardly therefrom in the same plane as said central portion 12, each of said segments 14 being separated from the next adjacent segment by a non- radial slot inclined from the periphery towards the interior of the disc in the direction in which said disc is to be rotated in use, each of said segments having its outermost periphery formed by an arc 15 of lesser radius R 2 than the radius R 1 of said central portion 12, the distance A of the leading edge 18 of the arc 15 from the central portion 12 being greater than the distance B of the trailing edge 19 of the arc 15 from the central portion 12. R 2 is at least 50% of R 1 and is preferably 75% of R 1 . Angle Y is preferably 22¢ degrees. The base member (22) may be of cloth, fibre or paper and have a hole 11 for securing it to a back-up plate; the hole may be omitted when the base member and back-up plate are to be secured by adhesive. The back-up plate supports only the central portion 12. |
