PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently perform processing (resulting in the reduction of the processing time, the reduction of power consumption, etc.) by not encoding data which are almost surely discarded after encoding.
SOLUTION: In the JPEG2000, coefficient data after wavelet transform is divided into code blocks, and bits in each block are encoded by three paths. Paths are arranged in the order of degree of contribution to image quality in encoded data outputted per code block, so that a code amount can be adjusted to an arbitrary value by discarding paths preferentially from the tail. Since it is not efficient that paths encoded with effort are abandoned later, an image quality value is monitored per path to be encoded, and encoding the code block is interrupted (encoding of remaining paths is omitted) to shift encoding to the next code block when the image quality value of the code block exceeds a threshold.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
|
