[Also in Division F2] In a method of making a pulley or wheel hub &c. in plastics material moulded on a bearing in which the outer race of the bearing is constituted by two annular cheeks 5, 6 (Fig. 3), plastics material is injected into a mould (not shown) so that the pressure of the material ensures centring of the cheeks in contact with the balls 3 or other rolling members. In Fig. 3, the inner race also comprises two cheeks 7, 8. The balls 3, a cage 4 and the cheeks 5-8 are assembled in a mould and plastics material injected to produce, on the one hand, the pulley 1, (2) with its hub 1a, and on the other hand, a central ring 9. Adhesive ribbons 11, 12 cover the joints between the cheek members 5, 6 and 7, 8 to prevent penetration of injected material. In Fig. 4, the cheeks 15, 16 of the outer race have integral extensions 15a, 16o while the cheeks 17, 18 of the inner race have hook portions 17a, 18a which improve anchorage in the inner ring 19. In Fig. 5 (not shown), the inner race comprises a single member (20) having shoulders (20a) against which the outer race extensions abut during moulding. In Fig. 6 (not shown), two sets of balls are provided while in Fig. 7 (not shown) roller bearings are used. The rollers may be tapered.</p> |
