PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lithium compound oxide capable of providing a lithium secondary cell excellent in initial service capacity and retention of discharge and capable of providing a high energy density. SOLUTION: The crystal particle of the objective lithium compound oxide is represented by the formula Lix Ni1-y Coy O2 (0<x<1.1; 0<=y<=1). The half width of the diffraction peak of hkl (0, 0, 3) by an X-ray diffraction of the crystal particle is <=0.3 and the c value, which is the ratio of the height (b) of the diffraction peak of hkl (1, 1, 0) to the distance (a) of the crossing point of diffraction peaks of hkl (1, 0, 8) and hkl (1, 1, 0) from the base line, satisfies the formula c=b/a>=2. |
