A forage harvester (figure 1) is provided with a crop processor roll assembly 38 that comprises a shaft 64 and a removable crop processor roll 60 having a fluted surface for cracking maize kernels. The roll 60 has end plates 62, to which the shaft is connected by sleeves 66. The interior of the sleeve is joined to the shaft by two interference or press fits B, D, and to the roll by a third press fit C.
