In a hand held data processing device, applications are arranged in a virtual space and a key or keys is dedicated to navigation through the space only, whereby a user can skip from one application to another at any time with a single key press. The displays shows one application at a time. In a preferred embodiment, the keys are located around the periphery of the display.
