PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic document feeder having a switch back route for reversing the top and back sides of a document by switch back carrying after the document is passed through an image reading position and a roller separating means capable of releasing the nip pressure of a pair of rollers installed in the switch back route and driving the roller separating means by a driving source, and an image forming device having the automatic document feeder. SOLUTION: This automatic document feeder mounted on the image forming device and separating a document bundle 8 mounted on the image forming device one by one and feeding them to the image reading position comprises the switchback route 42 reversing the top and back sides of the document by the switch back carrying after the document is passed through the reading position, and the roller separating means 44 capable of releasing the nip pressure of the pair of rollers 37, 38 installed in the switchback route 42.
