An adaptor for attaching a moulding device with inturned flanges to a support 22 from which a headed stud 24 projects, comprises a non-metallic body 240 which has shoulders 281 shaped to retain the inturned flanges of the moulding device and has an aperture 246 in it and support engaging surfaces extending longitudinally along opposite sides of the aperture, and a sheet metal insert 248 partly disposed within the aperture and in overlapping engagement with end walls of the body at each end of the aperture, the insert having an opening 250 for the reception of the head 28 of the stud and a ramp portion 256 with a slot 258 in it leading from the opening, for the reception of a shank 26 of the stud, the arrangement being such that with the support engaging surfaces of the adaptor body bearing against the support and with the headed stud projecting from the support accommodated in the opening of the insert, the adaptor can be pushed forwardly so that the ramp portion of the insert is forced under the stud head and the stud head becomes seated on a stud seat 252 beyond the ramp portion, thereby holding the adaptor body against the support. In the construction shown, the seat is separated from the ramp portion by a transverse ridge 284 to retain withdrawal of the adaptor from assembled relationship with the stud. The portion of the insert in which the opening 250 is formed lies below the support engaging surfaces of the body and is intended to be disposed in a channel in the support which arises when a lap weld is made between adjacent body panel parts in an automobile component; the stud is also disposed in the channel. The end ports of the insert which engage the body portions at each end of the aperture are of inverted U-shape and have prongs to grip the end portions. |
