<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driver authentication system capable of preventing burglar and no-license driving by enabling an authenticated vehicle user to start an engine once a vehicle user authentication succeeds and enabling an unauthenticated person to drive a vehicle for a predetermined period of time. <P>SOLUTION: To attain the above objective, this driver authentication system includes (1)portable ID transmission means for transmitting an ID for identifying an individual and (2) ID verification means for receiving a transmitted ID from the ID transmission means and verifying a received ID with a preregistered ID so that the vehicle user authentication can be performed on the vehicle side. Moreover, owner identification means for verifying whether an owner of the portable ID transmission means is the owner oneself or not is provided so as to perform a dual personal authentication for the vehicle user authentication. There are also provided means for enabling a vehicle user whose ID is registered to start the engine and enabling a person whose ID is not registered to drive the vehicle for the predetermined period of time. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
