PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the increase of an area of a valve body by stacking valves in the thickness direction of the valve body without complicating the layout of an oil passage. SOLUTION: This hydraulic control device for an automatic transmission comprises a spool valve 3 retained by fitting a plug 2 into the valve body 1, and a solenoid valve 4 attached to the valve body in a state of being stacked to the spool valve in the thickness direction of the valve body. Communication passages 23, 24 for connecting the oil passages L1, L2 in the valve body and ports L3, L4 of the solenoid valve are formed in the plug. Thus an oil passage of the solenoid valve in a case of stacking the solenoid valve in the thickness direction of the valve body, can be formed without forming an oil passage bypassing the spool valve 3.
