PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image evaluation method capable of performing practical image evaluation. SOLUTION: Image evaluations 70 and 72 are performed, based on a characteristic value variation 66, which is variation in an optical characteristic value according to the coordinate position for an evaluation image, and an imperceptible low frequency variation component 68, which is a component of the variation of an imperceptible low frequency variation component for the optical characteristic value according to the coordinate position for the evaluation image. Since the evaluation method according to the present invention performs image evaluation based on an image characteristic data in an actual space, it can detect with proper accuracy noise of a comparatively low frequency, namely variation in optical characteristic value of a comparatively long period, different from image evaluation using analysis of spatial frequency characteristics. In addition, since the method can perform evaluation taking the imperceptible low frequency variation component into account, it can perform practical evaluation, on the premise of visual characteristics of a person.
