PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish a method for operating a blast furnace with which the erosion of a refractory in the furnace hearth can be restrained while preventing the unevenness of lowered stock level in the circular direction of the blast furnace by controlling the blasting amount from tuyeres. SOLUTION: When the operation for temporarily or permanently reducing the blasting amount from the first tuyere group A positioned at the upper part of an iron tapping hole is performed, on the horizontal cross sectional surface in the tuyere level, the axial core position in the blast furnace is used for an original point and plurality of half-lines extended as the radiating state toward the whole tuyeres from the original point, are used as for axes, and the blasting amount from the tuyeres corresponding to the axis on each axis is plotted. When a polygon as a radar chart obtaining the plots on the abutted axes by connecting one by one with a line segment, is assumed, the blasting amount from the second tuyere group B existing at the symmetrical position to the A and the original point and/or at the neighborhood of the symmetrical position, are reduced so as to approach the G<SB>0</SB>at the figure center of the polygon in the case of reducing only the blasting amount from the A toward the original point.
