PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the portability of recorded and stored image data in a surveillance system. SOLUTION: A method is used for controlling the surveillance system. The surveillance system comprises a network camera for photographing an object to be monitored; a portable recording device for recording and storing the image data photographed by the network camera; and an information processor that is connected to the network camera and the portable recording device, and controls the network camera and the portable recording device. The information processor includes an event detection process for making the portable recording device removable and detecting an accident in the object to be monitored from the image data photographed by the network camera; and an event information generation process for generating event information for identifying event detection image data detected by the event detection means.
