PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charger capable of stably discharging. SOLUTION: The charger 30 is constituted so that corona discharge can be generated, and a rotating photoreceptor 29 can be electrified, and the charger 30 is provided with a discharge wire 37, a grid electrode 38f arranged between the discharge wire 37 and the photoreceptor 29, counter electrodes 38a and 38b arranged on both sides of the discharge wire 37 so that the discharge wire 37 is held between them. Regarding the charger 30, an opening part 123 is provided on the side opposite to the photoreceptor 29 with respect to the discharge wire 37, provided that the photoreceptor 29 side to the discharge wire 37 is made a lower side and the side opposite to the aforesaid side is made an upper side in a counter direction D where the discharge wire 37 and the photoreceptor 29 face each other, a distance between the counter electrodes 38a and 38b is gradually narrowed as it comes closer to the upper side.
