PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a chelate resin, which solves problems that in a conventional method for obtaining a chelate resin by polymerizing a phenol, an aldehyde and a carbamic acid group-containing compound in a solvent, since the polymerization ratios of monomer components are not so high, the yield of the resin is low and unreacted monomer components remain in the resin, when the chelate resin is used for waste water treatment, COD of waste water rises, the obtained chelate resin has low hydrophilicity and mechanical strength and has a fear of floating in waste water or crushing and causing clogging of a column. SOLUTION: The method for producing a chelate resin comprises polymerizing a phenol, an aldehyde, a dithiocarbamic acid group-containing compound and thiourea or thiourea and urea in a solvent, separating the obtained polymer from the solvent, adding an acidic substance to the polymer, heating them in the presence of an aqueous solvent and then distilling away the solvent.
