In a printing process comprising an ink transfer step, a particulate ink is applied to a substrate and fused to form the desired image. The ink comprises two components, at least one of which is particulate comprising an epoxy resin and the other a curing agent for the resin, at least one of the components containing one or more colourants. The components are maintained " separate ", i.e. at least one of them is in the form of discrete particles which do not contain the other, until the print fixing step. One or both of the components may contain a finely divided filler. The ink transfer step may be carried out in two stages by separately applythe two components if they are both in particulate form. Alternatively the substrate may be precoated with the curing agent and the particulate epoxy resin containing the colourant applied in the ink transfer step. The precoating may be achieved using a soln. of the curing agent or by spreading particles which are fused before applying the epoxy resin. Alternatively the epoxy resin may be applied over the entire substrate by similar means and the ink transfer step uses only particles of curing agent containing colourant. Preferably both epoxy resin and curing agent have m.p. in the range 70- 180‹ C. Suitable curing agents are dicyandiamide, tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, p-toluidine fluoborate or triethylenetetramine. The curing agent may be dispersed in a resinous carrier, e.g. a polyamide. The particles may also contain an anti-agglomerating agent, e.g. SiO 2 . |
