PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a return controlling method in an electric power steering system capable of ensuring smooth steering feeling by using a steering angle and steering speed to determine a return state and control return. SOLUTION: The return controlling method in the electric power steering system comprises a first stage setting a return pattern to a steering angle by setting return gain to a vehicular speed; a second stage obtaining a return current by multiplying the return gain by the return pattern set in the first stage; a third stage determining whether steering angle speed at a steering position during right turning of a vehicle is not less than a setting lower limit value in a counter-clockwise direction or not, and determining whether steering angle speed at a steering position during left turning of the vehicle is not less than a setting lower limit value in a clockwise direction; and a fourth stage obtaining a motor driving current by adding up an assist current computed from a torque sensor signal to the return current obtained from the second stage from a determination result of the third stage, and executing a return controlling function by controlling driving of a motor.
