PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording/reproducing apparatus capable of deciding an optimum compression rate with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: This recording/reproducing apparatus is provided with an extracting means for extracting compressed information from an image signal acquired by a first compressing means; and a control means for controlling a second compressing means to compress the image information on the basis of the compressed information, and controlling to record the compressed image information.
