PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a purification technique for suppressing the elution of cyan and simply fixing cyan in a treatment method of polluted soil or polluted ground water containing cyan. SOLUTION: A reducing iron powder with a particle size of 100μm or below and a specific surface area of 500 cm<SP>2</SP>/g is used in polluted soil or polluted ground water containing cyan or a cyan compound as a pollutant. Further, if a copper-containing iron powder wherein copper is present on the surface of the iron powder is added to polluted soil or polluted ground water, a further enhanced fixing effect can be obtained.
